For the Hollywood Star, January 2010
There is still time to purchase new street trees through Friends of Trees if you live in Alameda, Irvington or Sabin (where the deadline is January 11) or Beaumont-Wilshire, Cully, Madison South, Rose City Park or Roseway (deadline January 18), and Concordia and Vernon (deadline January 25).
If not, FOT needs volunteers to put those trees in the ground. The planting for the first group will be the morning of March 13, for the second March 20, for the third March 27.
There are also planting scheduled for Kerns, North Tabor, Laurelhurst and Sunnyside (January 23), Boise, Eliot, Humboldt and King (February 13), Piedmont and Woodlawn (February 20).
Assembly places were not available at press time, but the start time for all is 9 a.m.; show up in work clothes, rain gear and work gloves, and crew leaders will show you what to do. They’ll also feed you, and give you the satisfaction of making a positive change that will have benefits for years to come. For more information call (503) 282-8846 or visit www.friendsoftrees.org.
