Owen Ronchelli of the Lloyd District Transportation Management Association was selected late last year to chair Portland Streetcar’s citywide advisory committee. He replaced Chris Smith, who resigned this post after his appointment to the Portland Planning Commission. The appointment by mayor Sam Adams raised some eyebrows, and even produced some grumbling, since Ronchelli had not previously been a member of the committee. Smith points out that Ronchelli is not new to the field of streetcar planning; he served on an advisory committee to the east-side loop extension project, and chaired an advisory committee to the Streetcar Systems Plan, a long range evaluation of possible future routes. Smith comments that the advisory committee, until now dominated by downtown business interests, needs to develop a broader perspective.
