The Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement has begun accepting nominations for the 2010 Spirit of Portland Awards. Since 1985, these have been given annually to individuals, businesses or groups who increase the city’s livability.
Nominations are being accepted for Neighborhood of the Year, Business Association, Large and Small Business, “Community Harmony,” Community Policing or Public Safety, Emergency Preparedness, New or Emerging Community Leader, Public Involvement, Humanitarian, Non-Profit Organization, Outstanding Partnership, Public Employee, Youth Volunteer, or “Free Spirit.” A new category this year, in honor of the late Sandy Diedrich, honors Environmental Stewardship. Nominations are due by August 16. From those submitted, a citizen jury assembled and staffed by ONI will pick the winners. They will be presented in a public ceremony at a time and place yet to be determined.
