Portland Open Studios, the annual opportunity for local artists to open their work spaces to the public, is seeking participants for the 2014 tour, said Linda Kiley, the marketing chairwoman.
The deadline to apply for inclusion in the event is March 15. All visual media, except film, are reviewed by a jury of three art professionals. Application information is available at www.portlandopenstudios.com, said Kiley, who may be reached at moc.e1503277325vil@y1503277325elika1503277325dnil1503277325.
The weekend dates for open studios are October 11, 12 and 18, 19. Artists are required to open their studios for both weekends and demonstrate their working methods.
Applications submitted by March 8 will be charged a discounted jury fee of $25. After March 8, the fee will be $35. The participation fee is $150 plus eight hours of volunteer service. Participants may opt out of volunteering for an additional fee of $175.
Visitors will purchase a guide to learn addresses of participating artists. Some are in suburban areas as well as Portland.
As members of Portland Open Studios, artists have a unique opportunity to educate others about their methods, materials and inspiration, Kiley said. They also will meet other artists, have access to quality publicity and have an opportunity to sell their works.
Artists between the ages of 20 and 30 may apply for a Kimberly Gales Scholarship. If they receive a scholarship, all fees will be waived and each will receive a $100 stipend, Kiley said.
