“This year has been our best year, and we decided to find a bigger spot for our business,” said Tom Smith, whose partner in the business is Kay Wismer.
The new site will allow the pair to bring in more products, Wismer said, including flatware, serving dishes, plates, cups and kids’ lunch sets. They also have copy machine paper, and skewers made from bamboo and palm.
“People will be able to eyeball and feel the products and decide if it fits what they are doing,” said Wismer.
Some of the products are made from wheat straw, recycled sugar cane, bamboo, corn starch and biodegradable resin. Corn starch can produce petroleum-free plastic, the Earth Centric owners said.
Byproducts of bamboo and sugar cane once were burned, but pollution is reduced by creating products from them. The earth-friendly products are used in homes, businesses and restaurants and by vendors, they said. Some brides and grooms choose the products for receptions.
“Presentation is very important to caterers, and we can help match their color schemes and themes so that it’s stylish and earth friendly,” said Smith.
Earth-Centric started as an e-bay store and still operates an online store at earth-centric.com and on eBay. The business’s products also have made appearances in celebrity chef competitions around the country, and producers purchase products for the television show “Grimm,” Smith said.
