The new logo for the Moda Center, once known as the Rose Garden, will incorporate a rose as a salute to Portland, the city of roses, at the request of Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen.
The Trail Blazers and Moda Health, previously known as ODS, announced a 10-year agreement in August to bestow a new name on the sports center where the basketball organization plays home games.
The partnership between the team and the health insurance organization is expected to bring physical improvements to the arena, said Chris McGowan, the Trail Blazers president and CEO.
“This agreement enables us to reinvest in the company and the team at levels that impact every aspect of the fan experience,” McGowan said, “including the facilities, amenities, events and even the product on the court.”
First improvements will include new signage and new graphics for the basketball court surface in time for the season home opener on November 2, when the Blazers will play the San Antonio Spurs.
Other plans include redesigning and restoring water and fire fountains outside the arena, providing new food and beverage options, improving pedestrian traffic flow into the campus and from nearby rail stations and bus stops, upgrading landscaping, and providing seasonal and community oriented programs.
