Music, a slide show and supportive words from local dignitaries were part of the Hollywood Senior Center’s celebration of its 40th year of services.
The Center had humble beginnings in 1973, recalled Paul Clark of Township Properties, who spoke at the October 14 event. The Center expanded with a gift shop; and, he said, all the volunteers made it successful.
City Commissioner Amanda Fritz told the Northeast seniors that “we learn from you.” She added that she expects the city to fund senior programs. Executive Director Amber Kern-Johnson thanked the community and volunteers for their support. She also talked about the endowment fund, established in 1991, to fund present and future operations. Center board member Jim Harper was master of ceremonies for the event, which featured a slide show created by staff and volunteers, accompanied by Larry Peters at the piano.
