Alberta Street businesses will light a tree, welcome gnome hunters and serve refreshments during “ Lit Up and Local: A Month of Merriment.”
For the second year, lights will shine on a living holiday tree at 4:30 p.m. December 7 in the Courtyard at Northeast 18th Avenue and Alberta Street. Holiday music, cookies and warm drinks will be part of the free festivities as Santa arrives for a visit.
“Gnome for the Holidays” will begin December 14 when participants will look for gnomes hidden in window displays of many businesses. The seekers will get a stamp from each business for every gnome spotted. The search will continue until December 22 when cards will be entered in a raffle for a prize.
Austin Raglione of Mimosa Studios, who donated the gnomes, said, “It is great to share our enthusiasm for gnome culture with others in the neighborhood….This is such a fun and festive event – just what we like on Alberta.”
On December 21-22, participating shops and restaurants will provide free sparkling beverages and sweets to holiday shoppers.

The “Lit Up and Local” festivities are sponsored by Venture Portland, Screaming Sky, Umpqua Bank, Aviary, Mimosa Studios, Barista, Frock, Bella Faccia Pizzeria, Antler Gallery, The Original Living Christmas Tree Company, Candy Babel and The Sugar Cube.
