Volunteers may conduct a tree inventory in their neighborhoods in 2014 and, perhaps, see more trees planted and existing ones well maintained.
The Portland Park Bureau’s Urban Forestry staff will provide information about how to develop a Neighborhood Tree Plan at two sessions on January 7: Noon to 1 p.m., Room C, second floor, the Portland Building, 1120 S.W. Fifth Ave. 7-8 p.m., Classroom 1, East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave.
The deadline is January 15 for communities to apply to be in a tree inventory program. They will learn in February if they are accepted. Urban Forestry will provide more training before the inventory is conducted from June to September.
Data will be compiled and analyzed in October, and Tree Plans will be drafted in November. In 2015, residents will work on their community’s tree plan goals.
