Pianist Tom Grant will be among the featured musicians on hand for the celebration of the restoration of Grant High School’s vintage Steinway grand piano.
The program begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at the Grant High School auditorium, 2245 N.E. 36th Ave. A suggested $10 ticket per person is available at the door and is tax deductible. The sponsoring group is the U.S. Grant High School Alumni Association. Proceeds will benefit the exterior restoration of the 1917 piano, which has been completely rebuilt inside. It is believed that the piano has been at Grant since the school’s inception in 1924.
Also appearing will be the Grant High Jazz Band, the school’s Royal Blues singers and student pianist Kenny Regan. Recollections of former voice instructors Jean Acorn Vancil and Doree Jarboe will be included in what will be one of the last concerts at the auditorium – since complete demolition and refurbishment of the school’s interior will begin in about a year.
