You know the Staff Picks shelves at Hollywood Library? Right up front, just to the right of the new books? They’re pretty popular. Some folks will even come in, stop there, grab a few things and then head right back out. You may have noticed that sometimes the pickings get a little slim up there. What to do when you want a book recommendation from your trusted Hollywood Library staff, but there aren’t many staff picks left? Or you can’t get to the library? Or it’s after hours?
Our monthly picks are posted online. You can peruse several months of reading lists, with annotations, compiled by Hollywood staff and teen council members. Just go to our website and hit that blue button that says “view more reading lists” and explore to your heart’s content. You can follow us so you never miss a thing, and use our picks to create your own reading lists.
There’s another way to get expert reading, listening and viewing recommendations from a library staff member, and that’s through My Librarian. Visit my-librarian and choose the librarian who shares your reading tastes. Fill out the form and you can get together with your librarian in person, by phone, chat, email or whatever works for you. You can also sign up for monthly recommendations from your librarian via email. The service is made possible by a gift from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation to The Library Foundation.
One thing about people who love to read: We often love to tell other people what they might like to read. You can do the same, you know, by rating your favorites and adding comments in the catalog. Join in the fun – you know you want to.
