Dr. Tongue’s “I Had That” Shoppe, located in the heart of the Roseway neighborhood at 7129 N.E. Fremont St., opened on May 2. The store specializes in vintage character toys and collectibles from the early 50’s to “about” 1994.
The small shop is packed with nostalgic items sure to stir up a memory or two from your childhood. “Specializing in the things your mother threw away,” is the shop’s tagline.
Proprietor Mark Pedersen has been bringing toys to the collecting community since the early 1990s. Pedersen’s original store, Dr. Tongues 3-D House of Collectible Toys, was located at 14th and East Burnside and closed in 2005. After a 10-year break, Pedersen is ready to scratch your collecting itch at the new location.
The store also carries vintage cocktail gear and retro, decorative items.
“I decided to throw some man-cavey items into the shop as well.” Pedersen said. “A lot of collectors’ toy rooms are so much more these days, so why not have a Tiki mug or three and some classic wall art to spruce the place up?”
And the unusual name? Pedersen said people remember it and it sounded so much better than “Mark’s Collectibles.” Dr. Tongue was originally taken from a character from SCTV played by John Candy.
Pedersen’s store is open from Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5:00 p.m.
