Hollywood Library manager
This will be a busy summer for Hollywood Library with a renovation project happening in August. This renovation will result in new paint and carpet, additional seating and better organized collections and public spaces.
The renovation includes replacing Hollywood Library’s worn 13-year-old carpet, repainting public spaces and adding a new information desk, a new table for children’s iPads, two new storage cabinets and reconfiguring shelving, tables and computers.
To enable work on this project, the Hollywood Library will be closed to the public from Monday, August 10 to Monday, August 31.
Below are some questions and answers that will help you plan in advance for your library needs. Any library staff member can assist you in answering questions and helping you to prepare for this closure.
Book drop and returns:
Hollywood’s book drop will be unavailable during the closure. Patrons can return materials to any other Multnomah County library. The closest libraries to Hollywood are Albina, Gregory Heights and Belmont.
Patrons will not be able to pick up holds and the book drop will be closed, so please plan ahead. If you have holds scheduled to be picked up at Hollywood and you think they may arrive while we are closed, you can call us at (503) 988-5234 to change the pickup location. For more information on how to modify or suspend your holds please visit multcolib.org/how-to-borrow. Finally, holds scheduled for pick-up at Hollywood Library will not expire during the closure. The closed days will not count toward the time that an item is held on the hold shelf.
During our closure, Summer Reading participants can pick up prizes at any other Multnomah County library. The closest libraries to Hollywood are Albina, Gregory Heights and Belmont. A full list of locations is available at multcolib.org/hours-and-locations.
Any item that is normally housed at Hollywood, no matter where it is checked out, will not be due during our closure. Also, items that are checked out at Hollywood before the closure but not owned/normally housed at Hollywood will not have an extended due date. Remember to check your account on My MCL or the Classic Catalog for accurate due date information. To check your account via our classic catalog, visit catalog.multcolib.org/patroninfo. To check your account via My MCL, visit multcolib.bibliocommons.com/user/login.
After we reopen, library staff will work with patrons and remove fines that may have been caused by the closure either by patron request or if a problem is discovered. If you have questions, you may ask any library staff member or contact Library Account Services by calling (503) 988-4040.
The collection will be moved offsite and unavailable during the renovation. Items in the Hollywood collection won’t be visible on the library’s website for holds or checkouts during the closure.
The meeting room will not be available from August 8 until the week of August 31.
Hollywood will have minimal programming in August to reduce the impact on staff time, allowing staff to focus on the preparation work needed for the closure. The last storytime prior to closure is Saturday, August 8. Storytimes will resume on Tuesday, September 8. For a full list of events and programs at other neighborhood libraries please visit https://multcolib.org/events.
Hollywood staff will be reassigned to work at other neighborhood libraries during the renovation.
Contacting the library during the closure:
The main Hollywood Library public number, (503) 988-5391, will be updated with a recording reflecting our closure. Please call the information services line at (503) 988-5234 with any other questions.
We know that this will be an inconvenience and we thank you for your patience and understanding. We’ll miss you during the three weeks in August but we will be back better than ever.
