Nonprofits across the state are invited to join the Giving Tuesday movement and take part in the first annual Oregonians Give event on December 1.
Started in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global movement that aims to balance the focus on shopping and buying fueled by Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The social media-driven event encourages charities, families, businesses, students and individuals to give to the organizations that make an impact in their community.
“Oregonians Give is an opportunity to celebrate our state’s true spirit,” said Agnes Zach, executive director of Willamette Valley Development Officers. “Oregonians Give lets us take a day to celebrate generosity. We have the chance to focus on the amazing work taking place in nonprofits and charities across the state and give back. We encourage all nonprofits throughout the state of Oregon to sign up and join us for this day of gratitude.”
“Giving Tuesday aligns perfectly with our mission of building a strong community by supporting our local businesses,” said Albina Community Bank’s Deanna Allred. “We look forward to growing this annual event into something meaningful and impactful by helping our non-profits and our businesses to work together for the common good.”
Nonprofits interested in joining Oregonians Give can sign up for free and receive more information online at www.oregoniansgive.org. The website offers a variety of resources to help in planning, and recommendations on how to fold the Giving Tuesday event into end-of-year giving.
