Melissa Park’s Rust Coffee Lounge, 2035 N.E. 41st Ave., has added local beers and wines to the menu and will begin serving everyday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Coffee, tea, draft kombucha, pastries and sandwiches will continue to be available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Minors will still be allowed during all hours because the primary business remains coffee, tea, and snacks – with free WiFi.
“We are sourcing local beer, cider, and a few selections of wine,” said Park. “We would love for people to stop in and grab a beer to see what we have rotating on tap.”
“Being next door to the Hollywood Library, we get to serve a very diverse crowd,” she added. “The people watching is amazing and the library traffic is an added bonus.”
Rust serves Ristretto Roasters coffee and they are partnered with Townshend’s Tea, Brew Dr Kombucha, Jasmine Pearl Tea, Bakeshop Pastries, Molly’s Grown to Eat sandwiches and Gluten Free Gem. All the vendors they work with are less than two miles from the shop.
Melissa’s husband, Ben, is a paramedic with Portland Fire and Rescue and the couple live nearby in the Irvington neighborhood.
“We are currently fixing up our 110-year-old house in our spare time,” said Park. “I’m really excited to be more involved with the Hollywood Boosters, because I know my time can be spent helping to improve the area where our business is currently thriving – and also, basically right in our own backyard too. It’s a win-win for us.”
“I have been a barista since I was 17,” said Park. “I’ve never had a different job and I think it’s because I’ve always found myself knowing everyone’s names, creating a truly awesome service for people while they get their day started with coffee.”
“I met my husband while I was a barista about four years ago,” she added. “He got nonfat lattes for nine months prior to us going on our first date. I made the first move by writing my number on his cup one morning while he was on his way to training. The rest is history. He landed his dream job and helped me land mine. We both love coffee, love working hard, and love what we do.”
“I have four wonderful employees that work real hard for us,” said Park. “Most of them are in school or working towards their own goals of building careers here in Portland. We all have a passion for customer service, good coffee, tasty snacks, and good beer here in Portland.”
