Former Grant High and Oregon State University student Bradley Lewis has been awarded the Fall 2015 Spokeo Connections Scholarship for his essay on a social-media strategy for Bike First, the local nonprofit affiliate of Lose the Training Wheels, which helps children with disabilities learn how to ride bikes.
Lewis has volunteered for the organization for several summers now and his essay was selected out of nearly 400 essays submitted.
Essay topics ranged from using technology to keep us connected, using open data to improve communities and using social media to help promote non-profit causes.
Lewis plans to transfer to Marymount Manhattan College where he will study theatre and musical theatre.
“I plan to act professionally because there simply is nothing that makes me happier and simultaneously challenges me as much as acting does,” said Lewis. “I also participate in many acting workshops around Portland. I love theatre, and that’s where I have my roots as an actor, but I am very interested in film and television too. I’m excited to go to New York City, which itself is such a huge hub for acting. I know it’s going to be tough, but what’s worth it if you don’t have to work for it?”
