Shining Star Waldorf School, 2120 N.E. Tillamook St., will be creating a large community mural for their current location at the Holladay Park Church of God in the Irvington neighborhood.
The school began as a home-school enrichment program 12 years ago, and has been offering three- and four-day-per-week classes for several years. The school has an enrollment of about 60 children in first through eighth grades, and about 20 children in kindergarten and preschool programs.
Students and parents will work together to paint a large, blank cement wall with a collection of scenes from Oregon. The theme will include fields of wheat, fruit trees, forests and ocean beaches. Fifth and sixth grade teacher Laura Johnson designed the mural, and students in grades five through eight will do the painting.
“This beautiful addition to the neighborhood is a welcome change from a blank surface,” said seventh and eighth grade teacher Marsha Johnson. “We are eager to meet anyone interested in smaller classes, music education and art, German, Spanish, handwork, festivals and more.”
