After completing construction in May, ground-floor retail space in the four-story Beaumont Village apartment building is now fully occupied.
Zoom+, the Portland-based innovator of on-demand healthcare and performance health insurance, has opened a flagship store for its new pediatric care system, Zoom+Kids Discovery Center, in the space adjacent to Batter Griddle and Drinkery at 4427 N.E. Fremont St. The tenant-improvement work was done by R&H Construction and the striking, blue space was designed by Hacker architects.
According to Erik Goodfriend, Zoom+ product manager, Zoom+Kids is reinventing pediatric care by providing innovative access to healthcare and making it easier for parents to raise healthy kids. The practice emphasizes three primary-care pathways: food, movement and healthy relationships.
Families making appointments at the new center will meet Valerie LaRosa. LaRosa, who lives nearby in the Boise neighborhood, is a naturopathic doctor with a focus on pediatrics. A former behavioral therapist, she has a decade of experience working with parents and children to support healthy development.
“I’ve been biking to work through the neighborhood, and I’m always excited to see so many kids, babies, and parents out and about,” said LaRosa. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this community and to offer pediatric care for these families.”
A Great Blue Room with a movement studio and demo kitchen – where parents and kids can take classes – anchors the Discovery Center. There are also two kids care studios, where families will measure developmental milestones.
Free community classes on food and movement are open to the public and will emphasize techniques that enhance a healthy lifestyle. Instructors will include cookbook author Laura Russell and movement program developer Lauren Danner. Classes at the center in December will include Zoomers Yoga for ages 9-13 on December 1 at 4:00 p.m., Kiddo and Me Yoga for ages 1-5 on December 2 at 10:00 a.m., Eat The Rainbow: Orange for ages 7-11 on December 9 at 4:00 p.m., and a workshop for parents about Homemade Baby Food on December 16 at 4:00 p.m.
“Zoom+ is rethinking how primary care is delivered. We believe healthcare should be personal, inspiring and engaging,” said Dave Sanders, Zoom+ co-founder and CEO. “We currently care for over 2000 kids every month. We created the Zoom+Kids system to provide complete pediatric care. We’re going beyond the standard wellness visit and helping parents realize their child’s pure awesome-ness.”
Zoom+Kids is free to Zoom+Performance Health Insurance members. Nonmembers can join on a subscription basis at $30 per month, plus other health insurance co-pay. Originally known as ZoomCare, Zoom+ transformed from an on-demand care provider in May to become a complete healthcare delivery system with health insurance built in.
