After 37 years, the Philo House Thrift Shop at 2724 E. Burnside St. in Kerns will be closing its doors in mid-March. The thrift store has been run throughout the years by volunteers for Philoptochos, the charitable arm of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 3131 N.E. Glisan St. The shop was originally sited on Southeast Hawthorne, but moved to the Burnside location after a few months. Proceeds from the thrift store’s sales have gone to scholarships, needy families in the community and senior services.
“It is a unique thrift shop with a variety of merchandise,” said church member Cleo Rumpakis. “Some of the items for sale are men’s and women’s clothing, purses, hats, shoes, housewares, linens, towels, decorative items, seasonal items, books and more. Currently all merchandise is on sale with deep discounts – including all the fixtures.”
