Northeast Portland native and Grant High graduate, Katina “Kat” Benenate, an interior designer turned fashion designer, launched a line of luxury leather accessories in June. Her Benenate Collection offers handbags, backpacks, jackets, shoes and accessories.
Benenate grew up in various neighborhoods in Northeast Portland before moving to Atlanta in 2000. She says the city played a part in the design of her collection.
“Portland means a lot to me. It’s an artsy city,” said Benenate. “Being surrounded by so much creativity and beauty, I grew up knowing the sky is the limit. It’s that belief and my experiences there that inspires my work and what I want to offer the world.”
The “crown jewels” of the Benenate Collection are its handbags, which come in 15 styles ranging from shoulder and top-handle bags to over-sized clutches, crossovers, satchels, backpacks and totes.
“When someone purchases an item from our collection, we want them to feel inspired, beautiful and confident,” said Benenate. “Each look is a reflection of my background in interior design, showcasing structure, function, style and a certain level of boldness.”
