Nonprofits across the state are invited to join the Giving Tuesday movement and take part in the second annual Oregonians Give event at the Hollywood Theatre this year on November 29. The kick-off for the event will be held at the theater from 7 to 9 a.m. and a family-friendly movie will be shown for the community later that evening.
Started in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global movement that aims to balance the focus on shopping and buying fueled by Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The social media-driven event encourages charities, families, businesses, students and individuals to give to the organizations that make an impact in their community. Last year’s event raised over $1.8 million for more than 700 non-profits throughout the state.
“We here at the Hollywood Theatre are thrilled to be working with Willamette Valley Development Officers, Albina Community Bank, and our fellow Portland nonprofits to help launch and promote Oregonians Give in our community on Giving Tuesday,” said Kristy Conrad, development director at the Hollywood.
“Oregonians Give is an opportunity to celebrate our state’s true spirit,” said Agnes Zach, executive director of Willamette Valley Development Officers. “Oregonians Give lets us take a day to celebrate generosity. We have the chance to focus on the amazing work taking place in nonprofits and charities across the state and give back. We encourage all nonprofits throughout the state of Oregon to sign up and join us for this day of gratitude.”
“Giving Tuesday aligns perfectly with our mission of building a strong community by supporting our local businesses,” said Albina Community Bank’s Deanna Allred. “We look forward to growing this annual event into something meaningful and impactful by helping our non-profits and our businesses to work together for the common good.”
