On February 23, the nonprofit Hollywood Theatre opened a 17-seat micro-cinema on the C concourse of the Portland International Airport. The airport theater will offer an hour-long program of shorts from local filmmakers, including documentaries, music videos and animation. The free theater is open to travelers around the clock and the program – which plays on a loop – will be updated quarterly with new films.
Doug Whyte, executive director of the theater, and Alison Hallett, director of marketing and community engagement, coordinate programming for the micro-cinema. Neighborhood filmmakers are encouraged to submit work for consideration through Film Freeway. The space will also present occasional live performances and other special events.
