“We opened in mid-March, but we are technically still in our ‘soft’ opening stage,” said Ashcroft. “We are a partnership of two. Cassandra and I are both known in the bridal industry and we formed a great working relationship and decided to make it a full time gig. We offer hair services, skin care, waxing and makeup.”
“As beauty professionals, we were always referring our clients to other places around town for services,” said Kennedy. “We really wanted to create a place that offered all those in-house. We have recruited some of Portland’s top talent to work in our studio.”
“We are so thankful for Andy Frazier’s support from day one,” said Ashcroft. “We are always walking over there and asking for advice. They are a wealth of information and rad guys to be neighbors with. It took exactly one month to get the space in working order and ready for our soft opening. We will continue to make improvements as we get used to the space and learn more about our needs.”
A jazz club called Southfork is slated to open across the courtyard from the new salon within the next month or two. The bulk of the renovation work on the Fate space was done by Ashcroft and Kennedy’s families and close friends.
“It was amazing to see everyone come together to support our dream,” said Ashcroft. “I took on the chore of overseeing our salon construction while Cassandra worked with my husband Jon on our branding and website. Jon has been crucial to making this all happen for us. Cassandra and I both came up with the floor plan and design. One of the best features is our moving walls, for the suite that Cassandra will use to do hair and makeup. Cassandra and I both enjoyed decorating the salon. Our individual taste and style work well together. We really do have a unique partnership.”
Finding the space was a matter of being in the right place at the right time for the partners.
“I first started visiting the Beaumont neighborhood because I joined the gym at Honest Training down the street,” said Ashcroft. “We love Paisley Meekin and her team. Thanks to Paisley’s recommendation, I started visiting Dr. Jerome Craig at Functional Medicine in this building for a knee problem. I had always thought about how perfect the location would be, but it was never the right timing when a space was available. Coincidentally, Cassandra had been searching the internet and came across a listing and called me. It was prefect and we went for it. We were drawn to the area for its neighborhood feel and its accessibility for our clients. We love how it’s a very functional neighborhood, where we have access to lots of small neighborhood businesses right at our fingertips.”
“My aunt and uncle live nearby on 49th,” said Kennedy. “Our family spends a lot of time in this neighborhood, from birthdays at Stanich’s to Mass at St. Rose to trick-or-treating on Alameda. We are all obsessed with Pip’s Original Donuts. We love the accessibility and neighborhood feel. We’re surrounded by really great neighborhood folks and businesses.”
