Alberta Street pub owner Tom O’Leary, who opened T.C. O’Leary’s this past November in the former Branch Whiskey Bar space, will be returning to Ireland this month to reprise his role as Dr. Brandon Daly on the popular Irish soap opera “Fair City.”
“It’s a great excuse to get home to Ireland. With the pub just opened, I probably wouldn’t have made the trip for another year,” said O’Leary. “We’ll see when the scripts arrive if they kill my character off – or if the doctor lives on to cause more trouble.”
The Dr. Daly character, when last seen, had skipped bail on a murder rap and fled for Brazil. In real life, O’Leary left the show to move to the United States, where he starred in several plays in New York and Los Angeles before coming to Portland.
O’Leary’s wife Siobahn and daughter Aine will join him in Ireland toward the end of the month and all will be back at the pub by June to share stories of what happens to the good – or bad – doctor.
“I’ll work some of Tom’s shifts before I leave,” said Siobhan. “But we’ll be relying on our trusty manager Cassandra Ericson to run things while we’re gone. My dad, Richard Feeney, will probably be there everyday, as usual. He kept up his daily trips to the pub from the day we opened until the day of his 38th wedding anniversary, when my mom convinced him to go out with her downtown instead.”
