Approximately $10,000 in grants will be offered to community groups, small businesses and business organizations in North Portland by the Lester Viles North Portland Project Association.
The Association believes that strong businesses promote vibrant communities, and it makes funds available to improve safety, increase use or occupancy of commercial areas; encourage commercial employment and development opportunities; improve commercial area cleanliness and appearance; improve or increase commercial area use of cultural, environmental, educational or recreational space; and build and enhance relationships between businesses or relationships between businesses and residents.
A bequest from the estate of Viles, a North Portland businessman himself, founded the association in 2007 with the idea that strong businesses are an integral part of vibrant communities.
“We help North Portland businesses grow and thrive through community improvement micro grants,” said Steve Weir, board chairman of the association.
Applications are due by 5:00p.m. May 31 and grant awards will be announced by June 30.
