Community of Hope, a program of the nonprofit AllOne Community Services, opened in 2013 to provide a safe, stable place for families without homes. In addition to housing, the program provides classes, resources and mentoring. Families pay a percentage of their income for housing but other resources are needed for services.
Keynote speakers at the event will be Nancy Jason and Fran Weick from the Human Solutions trauma informed care committee. They will speak to the importance of healing childhood trauma, which can be the result of homelessness.
“Homeless children are statistically more likely to have lifelong mental and physical health issues, and are less likely to have good jobs, healthy relationships, or economic stability,” said Linda Jo Devlaemick, program director for Community of Hope.
The program offers a welcoming place to reduce the immediate stress of living in unstable conditions, she said.
