Metropolitan Family Service is seeking adults, age 50 and older, who are interested in helping children become good readers by the end of third grade.
Training will be provided for volunteers who will tutor one-on-one or in small groups in Eastside Portland and Gresham public schools during the 2017-2018 school year. No previous experience in education is required, said Lou Weisberg, who helps Metropolitan Family Service expand volunteer opportunities for adults. The nonprofit organization has been in Portland for 66 years, helping people move beyond the limitations of poverty, inequity and social isolation.
Volunteers may spend up to 10 hours per week in assignments. Stipends are available. Applications are available by calling 503-688-1767 or e-mailing liame1511000091.sfm@1511000091reetn1511000091ulov1511000091.
