The Sons of Norway’s Grieg Lodge recently celebrated its 107th anniversary and awarded scholarships, worth $2,000 each, to 15 students.
In addition, the organization provided a $500 Bernhard and Johanna Fedde grant to the Portland Scandinavian Chorus, which will perform in Sweden and Norway this summer. The scholarship recipients include Jannike Allen, Raymond Baldwin, Nathan Bergfelt, Sophia Caesar, Chelsea Davis, Laura Gifford, Millie Hobaish and Nissa Jensen. Scholarship winners also include Nicole Kister, Chad Lipka, Tyler Pederson, Elizabeth Solheim, Ian Schipper, Robert Stoddard and Logan Wahlstrom.
Portland’s Grieg Lodge, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization of about 600 members, was founded in 1910 and built Norse Hall, 111 N.E. 11th Ave., in 1928. It is part of the national Sons of Norway fraternal benefit society, organized by 18 Norwegian immigrants in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1895. It now has 52,000 members.
