In mid-November, “Lightbulb Lady” Kay Newell and the team at Sunlan Lighting switched out their legendary window display at the corner of North Failing Street and Mississippi Avenue for the holiday season. One window celebrates the American holiday with Chris Willis’s Santa display, a second honors the children of Abraham, a third honors all religions of earth from Native American to Druid, and a fourth is designed to show respect and honor beliefs of Far Eastern religions.
“The message of the windows this year is that we do not need to believe each other’s beliefs, but we owe each other respect,” said Newell. “I requested help from neighbors of different faiths to select the figures that honor their beliefs. We should all welcome our differences and embrace the values that we share. Remember, a light in your window says ‘welcome.’”
