Crowdfunding to purchase the Alberta Rose Theatre building, 3000 N.E. Alberta St., has been extended to Jan. 3, 2018, according to Joseph Cawley, who coordinates programs in the 1927 performing arts venue.
“We have a new deal with the seller,” Cawley said in a post on the theater website. “After a few setbacks and hurdles, we’ve renegotiated the offer for a lower price! We have been able to finance $2.3 million of the $2.775 million asking price for the building, but we still need help with the down payment.”
To encourage large donations, Cawley has offered a lifetime pass for two people to attend all Alberta Rose shows for a donation of $12,000. For $6,000, a donor would have a pass for two to attend a year of shows. Donations of any amount may be made at www.gofundme.com.
The theater with 300 fixed seats opened in 1927 to show motion pictures. It closed in 1978 and was used by a church congregation for years. In 2010, Cawley and a crew began producing hundreds of events each year. The owners offered the building for sale earlier this year.
